Lipstick is a must-have in every make up arsenal. It can transform the most humdrum look to super-sexy and exceptional, it can lift spirits and revamp tired old wardrobes with a quick slick. And the new Givenchy Le Rouge collection looks set to do just that. An exclusive to Debenhams, it hit the stores on January 21st and is only available until 3rd February.
Pick a colour, any colour
The humble lippy is pretty powerful stuff in my opinion, so getting the right shade is absolutely key. But what shade to pick – blue-red, tomato, orange, coral, nude, wine…? And what finish, matte, sheer, glossy…? It can all be a bit intimidating for some. The Le Rouge collection thankfully has a great range of shades – and there’s one for every skin tone. From soft, subtle nudes and rose for a great day time look, to deep rich burgundy hues and bold, poppy corals, the 12-colour selection is versatile and classic. For pale skin tones, try the soft Brun Cachemire for day and the bright Carmin Escarpin by night. Rose Boudoir is a great, deep pink, ideal for darker skin tones, while for olive skin tones, Fuschia Irresistable is perfect.
Value for money
£24 does sound like a lot for a lipstick, so Le Rouge better be truly exceptional! On application, it feels velvet soft, and is highly pigmented – you don’t need several applications to build up colour. As the Le Rouge collection is all matte, this is a great plus. I chose Fuschia Irresistible and found it had great, long lasting wear – even though it glides on like a creamy lipstick, it held for hours without needing a retouch. The formulation is a strong plus over other matte brands, which can definitely feel drying after a while, as well as leaving nasty feathering. Not a problem at all for Le Rouge, I’m pleased to say. Le Rouge also has a light, but not overwhelming fragrance to it – no yucky plastic smells, as you’d find with cheaper brands.
The Luxe Look
Premium makeup brands always seem to be trying to out-compete each other in the luxury stakes – with 007-style packaging, incredible styling and cinematic commercials. Givenchy is definitely not one to be left behind. While some lipsticks can sometimes leave you feeling short changed with less-than-exceptional style and presentation, the Le Rouge lipstick has definitely had a lot of thought put into it.
The Le Rouge collection comes in a striking package of leather and chrome, that perfectly captures the sexy, edgy and tough look of the Givenchy runway. Encased in slick silver metal and soft pebble leather, and finished with toughened stud details, the Le Rouge lipstick feels like you get a tiny touch of the ultra glam, high-fashion label in the palm of your hands. The pulling mechanism at the bottom is handy too – saving you from the awful scenario of open lipstick tubes being mashed up in your handbag.
An embossed logo on the tube gives the lipstick an additional subtle edge, while the sleek black leather case adds an extra dimension – something you’ll definitely be able to feel in your hand, as you rifle through your handbag at night!Google+
